2007 Men's World Championship - Qualification Europe

 

Within the period 4 to 22 January 2006 the qualification matches for the 2007 Men's World Championship in Germany, qualification Europe, will take place as follows:

Qualification groups - playing dates:

First and second leg matches:

4 to 8 January 2006

Third and fourth leg matches:

11 to 15 January 2006

Fifth and sixth leg matches:

18 to 22 January 2006

Play-off Matches

The final tournament of the 2007 Men's World Championship in Germany (IHF event) will be played with altogether 24 teams (13 European participants). In addition to the defending champion Spain and the organiser Germany the three best ranked teams of the Euro06 in Switzerland will qualify directly for the participation in the final tournament. The remaining eight places will be decided via play-off matches.

 

The subsequently mentioned teams are qualified directly for the play-off matches of the 2007 Men's World Championship in Germany:

 

Croatia, Denmark, France, Hungary, Iceland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Serbia Montenegro, Slovenia, Switzerland, Slovakia, Ukraine (out of this 14 three teams will qualify directly for the final tournament).

 

From the qualification groups being played in January 2006, the winner of each group - altogether five teams - will qualify for the play-off matches taking place on

 

·         10/11 June 2006 (first leg) and

·         17/18 June 2006 (second leg)

 

and meet those teams which are qualified directly for the play-offs.

 

Draw Play-off Matches

The draw for the play-off matches will be held on the occasion of the Euro06 final weekend in Zurich, Switzerland, on 5 February 2006, 11:30 hrs. (together with the Euro06 press conference).

 

The results of the qualification matches for the 2007 Men's World Championship will be the basis for the seeding in subsequent competitions.
